Prosecutors person have filed felony charges of breach of trust against Panayote Dimitras, longtime caput of the Greek Helsinki Monitor, pursuing a probe opened successful 2023 by the country’s anti-money laundering authority.
Investigators alleged mismanagement of funds received by the NGO, claiming they were not used for approved purposes.
Assets belonging to Dimitras and the enactment were frozen, and the lawsuit was forwarded to prosecutors for transgression review.
Dimitras has firmly denied the accusations, calling the enquiry a “campaign to smear” his sanction and “a merchandise of retaliation” implicit the NGO’s reports connected exile and migrant pushbacks by Greek authorities. “The alleged funds for quality rights support supposedly spent elsewhere bash not exist,” helium said, noting the lone funded programme involves combating hatred speech.
