Athena and Hermes make their way home from Chicago

Five antiquities dating from the 6th period BC to the 2nd period AD are being repatriated from the US to Greece, the Culture Ministry announced.

The objects see two Attic black-figure vessels from the 6th period BC: an amphora depicting Athena and Hermes welcoming Heracles to Olympus and a conflict scene, and an olpe showing Dionysus with maenads.

The remaining works are a bronze reflector from the Late Archaic-Classical period, a torso of Hermes successful Parian marble dated to the 1st period BC to the 1st period AD, and a alleviation fragment portraying Athena from astir the 2nd period AD.

The antiquities were acquired successful the 1970s and 1980s by the creation trader Richard Gray and his wife, Mary Gray. In May 2025, their children contacted Greek authorities and proceeded with a voluntary return.
